Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) announced on Sunday that the total achievement in the environmental fuel project amounted to 96.9 percent at the end of last October, according to Kuwait News Agency.

"The project is one of the largest projects in the world with a budget of $ 15.2 billion," said Mohammed Al-Mutairi, the company's chief executive, noting that the project consists of two important parts.

Al-Mutairi explained that the first part of the project is the modernization and upgrading of existing units of Al-Ahmadi refinery, Mina Abdullah and refinery facilities. The second part of the project is to build new units.

He said that 22 new units are being built at Mina Abdullah refinery, the most important of which is the construction of the new crude oil distillation unit with a capacity of 324,000 barrels per day.

Al-Mutairi pointed out that the number of projects being prepared in the Ahmadi refinery is 17 units, the most important of which is the new coal production unit with a capacity of 37 thousand barrels per day.

The total amount of the project was 3.886 billion dinars ($ 12.8 billion), of which 890 million dinars ($ 3 billion) were disbursed in Kuwait. The largest central business unit for the project was built in the Middle East, indicating the size of the project.

Al-Mutairi pointed out that the financing agreements were signed with export credit agencies from several Asian and European countries worth $ 6.245 billion.

He said that $ 5.545 billion had been withdrawn from the loan so far, and the remaining $ 700 million would be withdrawn in the near future
