Red Bull driver Daniel Ricardo has won the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday for the sixth edition of the Formula One 2018 World Cup, winning his seventh career win despite revealing that there is a problem with the power unit shortly after the launch. The Australian finished the race with his Austrian side, which celebrates its 250th race, beating Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, who was second to defending champion Lewis Hamilton.
The team asked Ricciardo to keep the car and tires after telling the driver over the radio that he was suffering from a loss of energy, and was able to stand up against Vettel, who reduced the difference in some twists to about a second.
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen came in fourth, ahead of fellow national Valery Potas and Frenchman Esteban Okon.
Ricardo won the second win of the season after the China Grand Prix, equaling the rest of his rivals with 2018 wins.
"Ricardo has lost nearly 25 percent of his engine capacity," said team manager Christian Horner. Due to the way these engines work, the rear heat has increased. It happened with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg a few years ago at the Montreal circuit. "
"He had to cool the brakes and the car, so he was getting his foot up early on the accelerator."
