The Australian Football Association (FFA) has announced that it plans to hold negotiations for the signing of Barcelona's Andres Iniesta, who announced days before leaving the Catalan side at the end of the season.
The Australian Football Federation announcement comes in tandem with reports of an agreement between the Spanish player and Japan's Vesel Kobe.
"Four Australian clubs have expressed their intention to take advantage of a recently announced fund that could be used to attract a player like Iniesta," said Greg Oruk, chairman of the Australian League.
"We will determine with the clubs how to proceed, will we use millions once to attract a big fish or distribute the amount to bring three players of lower quality."
Earlier this week, the Spanish newspaper Sport reported the Aussie as a "favorite destination" for the midfielder, despite reports that he was close to joining the Japanese club Vesel Kobe.
Iniesta, the 2010 World Cup champion, is preparing to join Vesel Kobe with a three-season contract for an annual salary of 25 million euros, Cadena Ser reported on Tuesday.
Mano Carinho confirmed that the agreement had been settled "completely" on the sidelines of the Sunday match between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
