China's economy grew at a slower-than-expected 6.5 percent pace in the third quarter from a year earlier, the slowest pace since the global financial crisis, official data showed.
The data, published on Friday, show a modest slowdown in the world's second-largest economy as government efforts to tackle debt risk began to squeeze growth as a US-led trade war threatens Chinese exports.
Experts had expected China's GDP growth of 6.6% in the third quarter of 2018, slightly down from the second quarter of 2017, in which China recorded a growth of 6.7%.
China's economic growth of 6.5% in the third quarter of this year is the weakest since the first quarter of 2009 during the global financial crisis.
