British driver Lewis Hamilton has won the first Grand Prix of the American Grand Prix.
Hamilton is looking forward to winning the US title on Sunday evening to officially crown the Formula One World Championship for the fifth time in his career.
Hamilton scored the fastest lap in one minute and 32.32 seconds on the American track in Austin, Texas.
Hamilton was just over 060 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, who finished second in Saturday's official game.
But Vettel suffered a penalty of retreat three centers not to slow it down fast enough during the raising of the red flag in the first free trial. On Friday, leaving the German driver in fifth place.
The penalty made Vettel a tough one in his battle with top-ranked drivers Lewis Hamilton, who are 67 points behind Vettel with only four races remaining.
Hamilton could win the world title for the fifth time in his career if he could get eight points more than Vettel in today's race.
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen is third, but will take second place behind Hamilton due to the penalty imposed on Vettel, while the other Finn starts with Waltiri Potas Hamilton colleague in Mercedes from fourth place.
"It's a very important step, the competition was fierce," Hamilton said.
"I did not know how close the competition would be."
"We will see what happens today, the Ferrari team is fast, I wish better weather for all the fans, and I wish an exciting race for all of us."
Hamilton won the first leg of my 81st career and will be officially crowned world champion if he wins the US title with Vettel finishing third or lower.
Hamilton is close to Juan Manuel Fanguio's five-time winning streak, only two titles from the Formula One Formula One champion Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton has a big advantage in the US race, winning five times in the last six seasons and six times in the last seven seasons.
Red Bull's Daniel Richardo finished fifth in the official race, but will start fourth from Vettel, who will start fifth.
Second-placed Esteban O'Conn, followed by Renault's Nico Halkenberg and seventh-placed driver Roman Grosjean, followed by Sauber's Charles Leclerc and ninth-placed driver Sergio Perez.
